Igor Trafane , president of the Brazilian Confederation for Texas Hold’em, made an announcement this Wednesday that will make an impact worldwide: the Ministry for Sports has signed off on the creation of rules for poker to be recognized as a sport discipline.
Poker in Brazil, from a legal standpoint, has been operating within a legal framework for 10 years. However, the whole community and its plight, represented by Igor has always been in search of clear regulations for the game. What does this mean? That besides the legal framework, there should be a set of rules that allow for clarity and trust to exist, both for players and for anything else generally surrounding the game of poker.
Igor’s announcement:
Today, we saw a significant breakthrough, given that the Brazilian Confederation and the Ministry for Sports, that have been working together for four years to find the best possible solution, came to an agreement to finally take the first step: the creation of a professional work group to monitor and regulate activities, as well as the following items on the agenda:
-The setting up of a schedule at both national and state level.
-To allow for the national registration of companies related to poker in the country.
-To award certification to institutions in charge of organising events, providing legal support for the workers at such events.
-A clear set of rules for poker clubs in Brazil to abide by, in terms of their operations.
-To open up a specific channel for communication among players, entrepeuneurs and workers and the Ministry for sports.
All of these matters will be comprised withing a regulatory framework for the sport. And, althought, there’s still a long way to go, it is quite the news. Now, it is time to get to work and study and verify what the current rules for poker are, worldwide, taking all possible variables into account in order to reach the best solution possible.
This also creates en environment of tust for companies to invest on national poker, making it easier for the sport to grow within the country, in a healthy and orderly way.
Igor had already given us an exclusive on this news in an interview with CodigoPoker during the Neymar Jr Charity Home Game, when he let is slip that something like this might be happening: «In only a short while, it is likely that Brazil will have a set of regulations for poker: keep going, keep pushing«, those were his words then.
