When there’s a will, there’s a way, and David Paredes, is living proof of that. He was runner- up in January, 2014, among 1,229 players at the World Poker Tour Borgata Winter Poker Open ($ 499,549) and this weekend he improved his position after winning the main event for the WPT Borgata Poker Open Main Event, taking the trophy and a cash prize of $ 723,227.
The tournament, which took place at the Atlantic City casino, in New Jersey had 1,027 entrants for a $ 3,500 fee to create a $ 3,287,427 pot.
The head to head started with Paredes down 2 to 1 against James Gilbert, nevertheless, after 18 hands David turned it around.
The final hand came when Gilbert limped, Paredes went up to 3x and his opponent went all in. David didn’t hesitate to pay with K K while his rival was holding J J, the pair of jacks did not improve the community cards and so, Paredes was crowned the champion.
Final table payouts:
1°: David Paredes $ 723,227
2°: James Gilbert $ 434,598
3°: Joe Kuether $ 262,994
4°: Maurice Hawkins $ 220,258
